Amy Tsang Details Joining The Star Wars Universe

Screen Rant : I ’d make love to hear about the operation of being cast in aStar Warsproject , and how that compared to all of the other thing you ’ve been a part of .

Amy Tsang : Well , it was n’t the formal way . It was very unexpected . My friend , who is an EP on the show , was reading the script , he saw the fictional character that I eventually got , and he suppose of me . He necessitate me if I want to audition for it , so I was like , “ Of of course . This is Star Wars ! Of naturally I need to try out for it . ” I do n’t even know if I would ’ve gotten an opportunity to try out for it , let alone book it , otherwise .

I interpret for it , sent in the tape , and did n’t discover until three months subsequently that I make the role . I entirely did n’t expect it . I kind of forgot about it , because I did n’t really get my hopes up for it . I gave it my best shooter , and even the opportunity to audition was a vast deal for me .

The Acolyte’s Amy Tsang Talks Joining Star Wars And A Coven of Brendok Witches

I know these projects can be very secretive . How much information did you have before you showed up on set ?

Amy Tsang : A lot of things were inform by the art team . I got a handwriting , but a lot of the script was blocked out . I only get my scenes . It was secretive even to me so I would n’t be able to tell anybody the plot or anything . I would n’t have to keep anything secret — the closed book was maintain from me . I pull a lot from the artistic creation team , seeing what my costume was like , and my whisker and constitution pattern . Then , we had a movement passenger vehicle — Alex Reynolds . She was very specific with every one of the witch [ with ] how they go . She helped me find my lineament as well through movement , and the animalism of the reference . Usually , I work from the inside out , but [ here ] I pop out from the exterior in , draw clues from everything and put together everything together through the artistic creation .

You had to learn the world watch the show while you were also visualise out just how your character suit into the report . What has the experience been for you of watching the show every calendar week and seeing how it come together and how you fit into this world ?

Amy Tsang : I am genuinely surprised at how originative each episode is . I had some thought of how the story might go , but there are some middling shocking things that happened in the past few episodes that I did not expect . It ’s very invigorated . I mean , for a Disney+ show , it ’s very edgy . I am really impressed , and I ’m so proud of how it ’s been unfolding . It ’s definitely something that is unexpected in the Star Wars universe .

The Brendok Witches’ Ascension Ceremony Was A High Point Of Tsang’s Time On The Show

Something this show does so well is it captivate the feeling and feel of Star Wars with every skeletal frame . Do you have a first consequence where you search around and really felt like , “ Okay , I ’ve arrived ” ?

Amy Tsang : Yeah . We start with the Ascension ceremony . We started to shoot that as the first thing . We had several rehearsal doing the dance and the chant , but I had n’t see anybody in their hair and constitution . The night we first stepped on set with all the witches with their hair and makeup , it was like , “ Wow . Everybody look incredible . ” I was totally immersed from the minute I ill-treat on the set . The sets were amply realized . Anything you see on filmdom was n’t CG , so I was very much immersed from that moment of stepping on set .

I interviewed Michael Abels , who did the music for this , and I know that was a enceinte second for him because he had to write euphony run up to shooting . Do you think back the feeling of doing the chant and [ filming that view of the scene ? ]

Amy Tsang : It was dead magical . I ’ve never had a birdcall play while [ in a view ] . He had created the song prior to us doing the ascension ceremony , so the euphony was play in the background . It was play for our rehearsals , so we did n’t have to try that firmly . It was all there , the speaker were blasting the euphony , and I just got this intuitive feeling of the power of many . It all came together and the music really , really helped the emotion of it . It was incredible .

Tsang On The Acolyte’s Biggest-Name Collaborators

In episode seven is the with child confrontation between the Jedi and the witch . How was it to be a part of those moments when you have Indara and Sol and those unbelievable actor sharing a outer space with all of you ?

Amy Tsang : Even in the makeup room when I saw them sitting next to me , they were so kind . [ They ] just had this gravitas to them , but [ they were ] so human and kind — both of them . I look up to Lee Jung - jae since I was very youthful . I watch all his Korean drama and everything , so feature him sit beside me in the make-up room was kind of surreal . I had watched his cheek in so many things even before Squid Game , which I have it off . So see him on place and figure him work was the most awful experience .

And Carrie - Anne Moss … I entail , she ’s so badass . And then the Wookie Jedi … I was like , “ This is gaga . ” Being overlook into this existence and birth one line there was like , “ Wow , okay . I ’m a part of this . ” It is still quite surreal that it happened for me .

Brendok Moons In Acolyte Episode 3

You operate with the director Kogonada , and Leslye Headland was of course there overseeing everything . Can you talk to your kinship with them , and how they approached place all this together ?

Amy Tsang : Kogonada is the coolest . I was a Brobdingnagian fan , and when I heard that he was going to be the manager of our installment , I was so aroused . For someone like me , who also wants to take , catch him exercise is a masterclass . Coming from the indie macrocosm and work the room he works on a huge set , he was able-bodied to quarter out the good performance from everybody . He was so unagitated . I joke around and say he ’s the Jedi master of directors because he is so calm on his exterior , but he ’s flummox so much going on , and he ’s so optical maser - sharp on what he want .

I really cogitate that it being such a collaborative , positivist , and supportive circle startle from the top . Leslye Headland , the moment I stepped onto place my first day , come and recognise me . She enounce , “ give thanks you for being here . ” [ She was ] very personable , very warm , she asked me how I was doing , if I was liking London , and we had some conversation before I filmed my first scene . It made my job so well-heeled because it was such a well-heeled environment . I do n’t even call back finger nervous about being there because everybody was so kind and the environment was just positive .
