Includes SPOILERS for House of the Dragon time of year 2 , episode 5 .
Summary
Nothing could ’ve prepared me for Daemon Targaryen ’s aspiration sequence inHouse of the Dragonseason 2 , episode 5 . While I infer the literary criticism for Daemon ’s news report arc this time of year and wish he could be more involved in the action , I have n’t really minded the original storytelling for his character . So far , it ’s been an interesting way to research his home conflicts , and I know Daemon wo n’t be unforesightful on unforgettable momentsin the future . Still , Matt Smith is one of the most entertaining actors in theHouse of the Dragoncast , and I prise audiences ' desire for more of him .
Daemon ’s plotline with Alys Rivers has been totally original to the show , and it’sallowed us a peep into Daemon ’s thoughts and feelings , which he typically observe well guarded . The visions earlier in the season of new Rhaenyra were secern of his feelings about his wife / niece and how he has a constant motivation for control and superiority . InHouse of the Dragonseason 2 , episode 5 , things took a turn for the weirder with Daemon having a intimate fantasy about his and Viserys ' female parent , Alyssa Targaryen .
House Of The Dragon Season 2 Trailers Built Anticipation For The Alyssa Scene (Sort Of)
HOTD’s Trailers Hinted At Aemma Arryn Being Daemon’s Fantasy
House of the Dragon’sseason 2 prevue show glimpses of Daemon get a sex scene with someone who appear to be a Targaryen woman . Since it understandably was n’t Rhaenyra , many speculated that the woman would be Aemma Arryn , King Viserys ' first wife and Rhaenyra ’s mother . I went into the scene expecting the adult female to be Aemma , as it would ’ve expand further on Daemon ’s inferiority building complex with Viserys and his constant desire to be king .
I was confused when I did n’t recognize the woman and wondered if they ’d re - drop Aemma before my jaw dropped to the story at the reveal of her being Daemon ’s mother . I had prepared myself for Aemma , see the thematic purpose and alignment inwhat Daemon ’s tale is really about : his undying conflict with Viserys . It was doubtlessly one of the stranger book change this season that I ’m not alone sure was justified .
Why Daemon Dreaming Of Aemma Would’ve Been Better
Aemma Would’ve Been A Less Provocative Choice With The Same Effect
I ca n’t say I ’m too upset at this Daemon decision , as generally , I see it mirthful and can see the determination of Alyssa Targaryen feature some foundational essence on Daemon ’s psychological issues and complexes . However , in a season that ’s take in consistent unfavorable judgment for its book changes , I think play out the picture with Aemma could have accomplished a like thematic effect while conjure unnecessary less shock value . It ’s the type of book change that just seems almost too far - fetched to bother with , andHouse of the Dragonlikely could ’ve done without it .
