Sylvester Stallone ’s director ’s contract ofRocky IVfurther shows how Rocky ( Sylvester Stallone ) failed as a parent . Stallone released his recut of the quaternary entry in theRockyseries , make somesignificant changes to Rocky ’s 4th outing . One of these changes , however , brings Rocky ’s parenting skills back into enquiry .

A major conflict of the laterRockyinstallments , particularly that ofRocky V , has been Rocky ’s treatment of his son , Robert Balboa Jr. ( Rocky Krakoff ) . In most of their scene together throughout the pic , Rocky is show to be a caring father to his son , and it ’s obvious he really jazz his kid . But despite clearly caring about him , Rocky seems to sideline his boy whenever give the fortune . The main conflict ofRocky Vis Robert pining for the attention of his male parent , while Rocky is generally dismiss him in favor ofboxing newcomer   Tommy Gunn(Tommy Morrison ) , the film ’s   deuteragonist - turn - secondary antagonist . Rocky ’s trip-up as a parent have been a large part of the character ’s arc , specially with theCreedfilms , where he is shown want to correct these mistakes and once more be a part of Robert ’s life . But with the managing director ’s make out ofRocky IV , Stallone has n’t helped meliorate Rocky ’s standing as a founding father in the early days of Robert ’s living .

Robert Balboa Jr. is scarcely present in the   recut ofRocky IV , being reduce to one conversation with his father and a couple of backdrop appearances throughout with   scarce any dialogue . There ’s scarce any focus on Robert at all , due to Rocky ’s drive for judge   forthe death of Apollo Creed(Carl Weathers ) , his good protagonist and idol . Rocky   gives so picayune mentation to Robert , nor his wife Adrian ( Talia Shire ) , and   does n’t give much thought   to the fact that he could easily break down in the ring , same as Apollo , as he is face the very same opponent that took his protagonist ’s liveliness . Rocky is so caught up in avenging Apollo ’s death and   bringing justice to   Ivan Drago in the ring that he does n’t seem to care that he could leave his son without a Father-God , as well as get out his married woman as a widow woman .

One view that Stallone leaves out of the director ’s slashed ofRocky IVis the fit of Robert view the fight between him and Drago on his television receiver at home and cheer up his dad on as   Rocky defeats Ivan Drago . This was a key view in show the Julian Bond between Robert and his father , but it ’s left out of the moving picture this time around , leaving Robert to almost feel like an afterthought to both Rocky and the cinema itself . Even in Rocky ’s final speech , he does n’t wish his son " Merry Christmas ! " as he did in the 1985 excision of the photographic film , instead keeping it mainly about Apollo than anything else , further showing Rocky ’s negligence towards Robert .

Despite his later attempts to make up for his shortcomings as a parent , Rocky Balboa has proven metre and time again to not be there for his son when it has matter most .   The main motivations   of theRockyfranchise   tend to involveRocky Balboa ’s boxing careerand the opponents he faces in the band rather than him being there for his son . Despite obviously loving and caring about Robert ,   Rocky ’s career   seems to come first and foremost . In his retreat , Rocky tries to make it up to Robert and be a big part of his life , but it does n’t make up for the metre that he has neglected Robert in his youth . Rocky may have been a loving sire , but he was   also a neglectful one , which Stallone ’s theatre director ’s cut ofRocky IVfurther   plump for .
