Rachel McAdams & Abby Ryder Fortson Talk Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
Screen claptrap : The relationship you guy wire deal is so sweet-smelling and supportive . What was it like building that dynamic with each other ?
Abby Ryder Fortson : We kind of just hopped in good order into it . We had a meeting with Benny and Kathy and Rachel and I , we all piled in together in the New York apartment and we just built our trammel from there . I stand for , it ’s kind of what you have to do when you ’re an actor , you just have a unknown that you ’ve never meet before and you ’re like , " I love you so much , you ’re my new female parent . " [ Laughs ]
Rachel McAdams : Yes , absolutely . You just kind of dive in , and Abby makes it all really , really loose . I instantaneously palpate like - it is build insta - families , and you get really honorable at it , but some people are good at it than others , and you ’re really estimable at it .
Abby Ryder Fortson : Thank you .

Both Margaret and her mother go through a really rough readjustment after the move in the film , and Barbara is really try out to get a handle on more domesticated life . How would you line what that transition is like for her ?

So she ’s got to see a way back to her as well .
Are there any scenes in particular that really stand out to the two of you , either ones that were especially fun or emotional ?
Abby Ryder Fortson : One of my favourite scenes to shoot and to watch is at the end of the movie when Barb and Margaret are sit on the couch , and you just see them being together . And they do n’t have to lecture about what ’s going on , or they do n’t have to explain , " Oh , I ’m feeling this mightily now . " But you just do it that they ’re supporting each other in this placid , scented way , and I really love that .

Rachel McAdams : I fit in with you . One of my favorite personal line of credit in the whole movie is in that fit . And this is just the power and talent of Kelly [ Fremon Craig ] , that she add together up their collective and single experience in one telephone line to me , which was , " Is n’t it exhausting judge so hard all the meter ? "
Abby Ryder Fortson : " It gets so hard trying so hard all the prison term , does n’t it ? " Yeah .
Rachel McAdams : And there ’s just something so unproblematic and honeyed and straightforward about that . That yes , this whole movie we ’ve just been scrambling , like , " Are we okay ? Are we enough ? " or this or that . And it ’s like , " Oh , I ’m tired . Are n’t you banal ? Let ’s just sit down here and have a nestle . " And I reckon it ’s beautifully written by Kelly and performed by you .
