“ What we ’re see is a mixture of leaden - bodied snakes , boas and pythons , and then a bunch of legless lizard that are n’t snake at all .
“ The Snake River sitting there like that but not really doing anything is pretty accurate . Snake are doing almost everything in their power to not bite . Venom is only used defensively as a secondary justificatory system . Snakes in the main use maliciousness to take on prey .
“ To avoid getting bit in a billet like that , staying still is a good strategy to startle with . stay calm , no herky - jerky motions . Anything that ’s fit to start the snake is more likely to make it bite because it ’s going to get scared . attempt to back away very tardily and calmly would be the next step .
“ That ’s a python and it ’s just hanging out . That seems pretty realistic . That ’s what most snake in the grass do . Most snakes , even if you ’re up close in their face , are going to remain somewhat calm . One of the best way Hydra defend themselves is by not moving and hoping you do n’t really see them .
