Whether a main character is make a big professional choice that feel wrong or they ’re messing up their love liveliness , we have some opinions . While many of the fibre arcs on the infirmary series have felt really compelling and nicely crafted , others are n’t the same at all . Here are the five good character arc onGrey ’s Anatomy , along with the five most disappointing .
Best: Cristina’s Confidence In Not Wanting To Be A Mom
When Cristina Yang ( Sandra Oh ) and Owen Hunt ( Kevin McKidd ) get hook up with , fans could probably say that whether or not they would begin a family would descend up at some point in time . It has always been well-defined that Cristina has decided not to have children .
In the seventh season , Cristina ’s character arc is all about her option about her body and her future . She gets meaning and does n’t need to be a mother , and this is devastating for her marriage since Owen is n’t compassionate about it . But Cristina stays stiff and she know that she ’s make the right selection for herself . In the eighth time of year , Cristina has an abortion . Thanks to proficient writing plus strong acting from Sandra Oh , this is one of the best storyline onGrey ’s Anatomy .
Disappointing: Amelia’s Brain Tumor
spill the beans about one of the most disappointing character spark onGrey ’s Anatomy . When devotee learned that Amelia Shepherd ( Caterina Scorsone ) had a brainiac tumor in the season 14 premiere , it was theorize to be the reason why she has always acted so dramatic .
But that feels like an easy way out instead of a real , interesting , meaty character arc . Amelia had such a affect , powerful spark on theGrey’sspin - offPrivate Practicewhen she was a drug addict whose babe go , so it seems a pity that her character has been do by like this .
Best: Bailey’s Heart Attack
In time of year 14 , Miranda Bailey ( Chandra Wilson ) has a heart attack . This episode gives fans the opportunity to take a look at her background , which is fascinating since we did n’t know that much about her before . It turns out that Bailey has always been a Type A kind of person and she has always put a ton of pressing on herself .
This is one of the honest character discharge on the show because it makes Bailey realize that she ’s not resistant from getting as sick as the patients that she tries to help every 24-hour interval . And she has to bring in that being warm can entail being vulnerable and get help , too .
Disappointing: Alex’s Court Case And Violence Against DeLuca
Alex Karev ( Justin Chambers ) has exhibit awing character emergence since he begin as an intern at Seattle Grace . He was the attractive someone that everyone wanted to be with but he was gruff , natural , and unpleasant to be around .
Then he changed and became a ripe ally , a making love interest for Izzie Stevens ( Katherine Heigl ) and Jo Wilson ( Camilla Luddington ) , and Meredith Grey ’s ( Ellen Pompeo ) mortal after Cristina Yang left . But it all changes when he hurt Andrew DeLuca ( Giacomo Gianniotti ) because he thinks that he ’s attain on Jo . Alex has to go through a tough homage compositor’s case , and it ’s just incredibly disappointing to view him fall this far .
Best: April’s Virginity
Sure , some might say that the fact thatApril Kepner(Sarah Drew ) is a Virgo when she first starts work at Seattle Grace is a lame storyline that should never have happened . But when we cogitate about it , this is actually a really neat grapheme bow , and it ’s one of the show ’s sound .
Why ? Because April finds herself pull to Jackson Avery ( Jesse Williams ) and she has to add up to term with her romantic belief for him and her top-notch religious background knowledge . This all happens around the same clip that she has to take her board examination , and since she does n’t pass , she realize that she has to be a second more grown - up for make her Doctor of the Church dream come up straight . April shows a lot of character growth , and she changes from someone who induce upset at every minuscule affair to a much more mature grownup .
Disappointing: Ben Getting Put On Probation
Ben Warren ( Jason George ) gets put on probation at the hospital because he makes the seemingly innocent determination to do OR on a woman who was pregnant . The problem ? He did n’t have the right tools or even the go - ahead for this , which makes it a huge no - go .
This setback in his life history totally changes him as a soul , and after this , he makes the choice to leave his job behind so he can be a part of the Seattle fire section . This seems less of a case realizing his growth and true potential difference and more of a reasonableness for him to conjoin theGrey ’s Anatomyspin - off , Station 19 .
Best: Jo Overcoming Her Past
Jo Wilson has always been a sturdy girl who clearly has been through some things . It wrench out that she has a husband and he ’s been extremely abusive toward her , which is why she run aside from him .
This storyline allows Jo to come to footing with her past tense , her present , and what she wants for her futurity . Once Alex get laid what ’s going on , Jo and Alex are able to lastly get married and entrust to one another . It ’s very worked up to watch Jo be able-bodied to last move on .
Disappointing: Callie Dating Penny Then Wanting Custody Of Sofia
Grey ’s Anatomyfans would really love to last in a pretend universe where couples who have long since parted ways are now back together . Callie Torres ( Sara Ramirez ) and Arizona Robbins ( Jessica Capshaw ) are one such couple .
It ’s decidedly disappointing when Callie dates Penny Blake ( Samantha Sloyan ) and then decides that they should leave Seattle , move to New York , and oh yeah , take Callie and Arizona ’s daughter Sofia with them , too . Arizona is given legal detention . Sure , the general feeling is that Arizona and Callie are going to be in NYC together from now on , but that ’s not enough to carry through this character discharge . Callie ’s choices are n’t cool , from literally date the mortal who led to Derek Shepherd ’s death to fight Arizona for their girl .
Best: Owen’s PTSD
It ’s such a shame that Cristina and Owen ’s married couple falls apart because they are a beautiful couple . And they work through one of the most tragical and difficult thing that a couplet can deal with : Owen ’s PTSD from being a warfare surgeon
In a really sad scene , he starts to chokes Cristina when they ’re log Z’s , and that prove how serious his condition is . They do cease their kinship ( at least for a metre ) and he realizes that therapy is a unspoilt estimate , claver Dr. Wyatt ( Amy Madigan ) at the hospital . It ’s emotional to watch Owen deal with his past , and he has one of the show ’s best persona arcs because he in reality starts convert , uprise , and get adept .
Disappointing: April Questioning Her Faith
In the fourteenth season , April starts experiencing depression and does n’t think that there ’s any point in believe in anything any longer . Her affected role keep die and so she thinks that religion does n’t matter .
It ’s a disappointing character electric arc because it does n’t really make any signified . April has always had setbacks at the infirmary , both personal and professional , and she has never mat up this pitiable before . It ’s somewhat wearisome to check her query her faith and it ’s not a very well - craft arc . She ’s not say anything that people have n’t said before . While fans miss this character , it ’s good to say that she deserved to be treat a lot salutary .
